Bricklayer and plastering in Belgrade

Walling and plastering, small construction jobs in renovations. Bricklayer in Belgrade: building partition walls, bricking up windows and doors, plastering and smaller building jobs during the refurbishment of flats and houses. This work comes before the services and the tiling, so everything that follows depends on its accuracy.

About the service

Building partitions and bricking up openings

A partition is built from brick, hollow clay block or aerated concrete, depending on how much load the slab below may take and how much sound it must keep out. The new wall is tied into the existing ones with anchors, and a lintel goes over a door. When a window or door is bricked up, the new part is built flush with the old, so that the join does not show after plastering.

Before building it is decided where cables and pipes will run through the new wall, because channels for them are easier to make in a fresh wall than after plastering. Bricking up a window is often the first step of a refurbishment in which the bathroom or kitchen moves. An opening for a new door in a partition wall is cut only once the lintel is in place.

Plastering and repairing old plaster

Plaster goes onto brick or block once the wall is cleaned and wetted, and smooth concrete surfaces first get a coat that improves adhesion. In older houses and buildings the plaster is often lime-based and falls away in pieces around chases and windows; such a spot is opened back to sound material and replastered, not just patched on the surface. New plaster over an old chase tends to crack along its edge, so a mesh is embedded across the join before the finishing coat.

The price of masonry work depends on the material, the thickness and area of the wall, the room height, rubble removal and whether material has to be carried upstairs without a lift. Smaller jobs, such as patching plaster around a new pipe or closing a chase, are charged per piece, while building and plastering are charged per square metre.

Questions

Questions and answers

Masonry and construction work: how much does the call-out cost?
A booked call-out within working hours and within the regular service area costs 2.500 RSD. Labour, materials and parts are billed separately from the call-out. An expert inspection on site and a quotation for larger works are charged 4.000 RSD, and if you accept the quotation, the amount paid is credited in full against the agreed price of the works.
Who supplies the materials?
The client can supply the materials, or by agreement we can source them. When we source the materials, the client receives a clear breakdown of the materials installed and the work done.
Masonry and construction work: is there an emergency call-out?
No. Emergency call-outs cover plumbing faults, electrical faults and locks. Work in this trade is scheduled during working hours, Monday to Saturday from 08 to 16.
Which parts of Belgrade do you cover?
We work all over Belgrade. The regular service area is eight municipalities: Stari Grad, Palilula, Zvezdara, Vozdovac, Vracar, Savski Venac, New Belgrade and Zemun. For the other parts of the city the call out price is confirmed when booking, and for addresses outside Belgrade availability and arrival terms are checked by phone or enquiry.
What is better for building a partition wall in a flat?
It depends on the slab and the purpose: aerated concrete is lighter and easier to cut, while brick and hollow clay block are heavier and damp sound better. When the slab below must not be loaded, a plasterboard wall is the third option.
Can plastering be done in winter?
Indoors yes, if the room is heated and the plaster does not freeze while it dries. External plastering is not done in frost, because water in the plaster that freezes destroys its bond with the wall.
What is the difference between plastering and skim coating?
Plaster is the thicker layer that levels a brick or block wall, while skim is the thin finishing layer over the plaster, under the paint. Plastering is a bricklayer's job and skim coating a painter's, and they come in that order.
