Installation, service and maintenance of air conditioners and refrigeration. Air conditioner installation and service in Belgrade: fitting split units in flats and houses, cleaning and maintaining existing units, and work on refrigeration equipment. About the service

What a split air conditioner installation involves

A split air conditioner has two units: the indoor one on the room wall and the outdoor one on the facade, balcony or roof. They are linked by copper refrigerant pipes, a signal cable and a condensate drain, which pass together through a hole in the outside wall. Before start-up the system is vacuumed so that no air or moisture stays in the pipes, and the joints are checked for tightness.

The condensate drain is the part of an installation most easily overlooked. When cooling, the unit draws water out of the room air, and that water needs a fall to a gutter, a floor drain or a waste pipe; without it, it drips down the facade or runs back into the room through the indoor unit. A unit that heats in winter works the other way round, so the outdoor unit defrosts and releases water beneath it, which matters when its place above balconies and walkways is chosen.

What the price of installation and service depends on

The installation price is moved most by the length and route of the pipes between the units, the height of the outdoor unit and whether it can be reached from a balcony or only from a ladder, with work at height. It also matters whether there is a dedicated circuit for the air conditioner nearby, because the unit is not plugged in through an extension lead. Connecting the indoor and outdoor units to an existing circuit has its own row in the electrical services price list.

In Belgrade blocks the outdoor unit is usually fixed on brackets on the balcony wall or below a window, and the residents' assembly or the look of the facade sometimes decides where it may go, so the spot is agreed before drilling. A service washes the filters and the indoor heat exchanger, clears the condensate drain and checks operation in both cooling and heating. A unit that has not been cleaned for a long time usually first shows it with an unpleasant smell or dripping.

Questions

Questions and answers

Heating and air conditioning: how much does the call-out cost?
A booked call-out within working hours and within the regular service area costs 2.500 RSD. Labour, materials and parts are billed separately from the call-out. An expert inspection on site and a quotation for larger works are charged 4.000 RSD, and if you accept the quotation, the amount paid is credited in full against the agreed price of the works.
Who supplies the materials?
The client can supply the materials, or by agreement we can source them. When we source the materials, the client receives a clear breakdown of the materials installed and the work done.
Heating and air conditioning: is there an emergency call-out?
No. Emergency call-outs cover plumbing faults, electrical faults and locks. Work in this trade is scheduled during working hours, Monday to Saturday from 08 to 16.
Which parts of Belgrade do you cover?
We work all over Belgrade. The regular service area is eight municipalities: Stari Grad, Palilula, Zvezdara, Vozdovac, Vracar, Savski Venac, New Belgrade and Zemun. For the other parts of the city the call out price is confirmed when booking, and for addresses outside Belgrade availability and arrival terms are checked by phone or enquiry.
How far can the outdoor unit be from the indoor one?
As far as the manufacturer of that particular unit allows; the maximum pipe length and height difference are given in the manual for the model. A longer run means more copper pipe and insulation and sometimes topping up the refrigerant, so the route is measured on the visit before the price is set.
Why is my air conditioner dripping indoors?
Most often because the condensate drain is blocked or has too little fall. The water then collects in the tray of the indoor unit and spills over the edge. Another common cause is dirty filters and a dirty heat exchanger, where ice forms during cooling and later melts into the room.
Can an air conditioner heat a flat in winter?
Yes, if the unit has a heating mode, because it then works as a heat pump and heats the room it is installed in. Heating output drops as it gets colder outside, so heating a flat depends on the unit's capacity, the layout of the rooms and where the indoor unit is placed.
